    Blinded by a searchlight?

  2. December 29, 2015

    Hi thanks for visiting
The searchlights were part of the defences around Hamm which is approximately 45 KM from the Mohne Dam. It was here that the second wave led by Gibson encountered heavy flak and Hopgood in AJ-M was damaged but continued on to the target. In the proceeding wave Pilot Officer Bill Ottley in Lancaster AJ-C received hits to the starboard inner engine. The aircraft hit the ground at Heessen, five miles north-east of Hamm.
